What members are saying
“Someone posted in the channel for hiring gigs and opportunities with a senior comms position at a fast-growing fintech entering Europe. I spotted that and forwarded it to my manager from my last company, who had exited the company while pregnant. She not only was able to take over that freelance project, but also converted it into a longer-term arrangement following the birth of her first child.”

“A quick shoutout to this group - this summer I had a bit of a career crisis trying to decide if I should take a FT role with a good salary that I was headhunted for. I put a message in this slack asking for input and had some great convos. I ultimately ended up not taking the offer and feeling grateful every day haha. Thank you FoaF for the advice!!”

“I moved to Amsterdam in January and found Friend of a Friend through sheer LinkedIn serendipity. Since then, I’ve met some of you IRL, others virtually, and a few became a second pair of eyes on presentations before many (MANY) panel interviews. I’ve now started a new Head of Brand & Communications role. Thank you for the feedback, encouragement and company along the way — and for making a new city feel more like home.”

“This year I’ve found new clients, colleagues, brilliant advice and workshops - and actual friends - through Friend of a Friend. If you’re looking for a diverse group of creative women to be inspired by, this is also the place.”

“I can ask questions, even the ones I consider stupid, and these intelligent, clever, funny, highly professional women answer me. Without patronising, with respect, no AI slop, on point honest answers. We share reports and events, help each other with jobs, positioning, pricing and deals, and meet over coffee to talk shop and life. It’s the LinkedIn you wish we all had, and built by women. I’m very proud to be a paid member.”

“I get a lot of questions about how is it working as a freelancer. Like this! If you are in the right environment, with the right people - the support, the empowerment, the genuine care to lift you up is like nowhere else. I have never felt the kinship like I did as a freelancer, when somebody just shares because they believe in you, because they know the struggle of making it in this market with the rights you need to have. You are not alone, we are all with you to help you.”

Jessica Lauretti, founder of Friend of a Friend

Back in 2018, I was starting my own company totally alone and trying to figure out what to do. I didn’t know how to set up a business, how to talk about my work or if anyone would even hire me.

I tried to join a bunch of different groups but none of them felt quite right for me. They were all either insanely expensive and heavily structured or felt too power suit, girl boss for me.

Everything I learned over the past 8 years since has been through a lot of trial and error. And also from tons of private conversations at dinners and coffees and over text messages with friends going through the same thing as me.

I started Friend of a Friend to create that same space for women going through it today.

What started as a conversation about how to find other people like me in Europe, became organizing a founding group all year, and has now become a thing anyone can apply to join!

If you are going through a transition, starting your own thing or building a new life this space is for you. It is the thing I always wished I’d had.
